MCC Soccer Continues Busy Home Slate
From School Reports
The 2015 Meridian Community College soccer season is in full
gear and the Eagles are currently enjoying one of its biggest home stands in
recent memory. MCC is in preparation to host non-conference foe, Hinds
Community College, on Tuesday night at C.D. Smith Field. The doubleheader
against Hinds will also mark the fourth straight home doubleheader for the
program. MCC is currently in the middle of a six-game home stand that will also
include matches with Jones County Junior College (October 6) and Pearl River
Community College (October 9).
The MCC women are currently on a role in 2015 and are right
in the middle of a tight race in the MACJC South standings. The Lady Eagles
have won five straight matches and most recently stepped out of division play
to take a 3-2 overtime victory back on Friday afternoon against Holmes
Community College. Freshman Effie Morrison scored the go-ahead goal in the
extra session to pace the Lady Eagles to the dramatic victory. Morrison has had
a marvelous 2015 campaign by leading the team in goals with 14 which ranks her
in the top ten among all junior college players in the country. Morrison was
also recently named the MACJC Player of the Week after scoring six goals in one
week for the Lady Eagles.
The MCC women are currently 6-3-1 overall for the season and
will look to continue its winning ways on Tuesday night at 5 p.m. against
Hinds. The MCC men will also be in action on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
The night of soccer at Meridian Community College will also
be highlighted by a special event for local high school seniors in the area.
The Phil Hardin Foundation Honors College and the MCC Recruiters will co-host a
tailgate party, Senior Night, as well on Tuesday night. High school seniors,
parents, and families are welcome to attend the tailgate event on Tuesday night
as a part of the soccer doubleheader against Hinds. There will be free food,
pom poms, music, tailgating games, and more. The event will give participants
an opportunity to learn about ACT scholarships, honors college, and many other
opportunities that MCC has to offer.
