MCC Completes Historic Championship Weekend

The Meridian Community College golf team completed one of
its most impressive performances in school history by capturing the MACJC Event
#2 which was held over the weekend in Corinth, MS at Shiloh Ridge Golf Club.
MCC captured the tournament championship on Sunday with a
two-day team score of 560 (274-286) which was five strokes ahead of Mississippi
Gulf Coast Community College. The weekend belonged to freshman Lance Strickland
who earned top medalist honors among the field with a two-day total of 131
(64-67). The opening round score of 64 by the former Lamar School star on
Saturday also set a school record for lowest single round. The opening round
score of 64 by Strickland also set a course record at Shiloh Ridge Golf Club.
Grant Renegar also turned in a solid performance with a
141 (69-72), while Heath Newsom had a 142 (69-73).
Colby Evans finished with a two-day total of 146 (72-74)
and Camden Backel completed the tournament with a 146 (74-74).
MCC will return to action on September 28-29 at the
Blazer Classic which will be hosted by Belhaven University at Castlewoods
Country Club in Brandon, MS.
