MCC Track Posts Eight Wins at Mississippi College

Clinton, MS- MCC returned to the track Friday over in Clinton at the Mississippi Twilight posting 8 victories on the day. 

MCC saw victories in the women's 400 hurdles and the men's 200, 400, 800, 3000 steeplechase, high jump, long jump and shot put.

"This was a great meet for us from top to bottom in all event areas," said Head Coach Chip Gayden.  "We came in to this meet and progressed from what we had done indoors and started the outdoor season off on the right foot."

In the field events high jumper Devontre Young dominated the competition with only one miss and clearing 2.08 meters(6-10). In the shot put, freshman Hayden Tharpe won with a throw of 14.07 meters (46-1).  In the long jump, freshman Lakendric Tuck posted a winning mark of 7.14 meters (23-4).

MCC's success in the field events carried over later in the day in the running events. Kendrick Smith posted the fastest 200m time in the NJCAA with a time of 20.73 for a win in the 200. In the 400, Devontre Young posted the winning time of 49.18. He was followed by Marquis Adams who finished in 49.54. 

In the distance events, MCC claimed two victories. Josh Austin claimed the victory in the 800m with a time of 1:56.55 which was three seconds ahead of second place. Tyler Warren was victorious in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 11:03.54. His time gave him a thirty second victory over second place.

On the women's side, MCC posted a victory in the 400 hurdles with Jocindra Glee. Glee posted a personal best time of 1:05.79 to win the event.

MCC will now turn their attention to the MCC Relay Invitational next Saturday, April 11. The meet will begin at 12:30.
