MCC Softball Falls To PRCC

POPLARVILLE, MS- The Meridian Community College softball
team returned to action on Wednesday afternoon for another key MACJC South
Division doubleheader by making a road trip to Pearl River Community College.
The Lady Eagles unfortunately returned home with a pair of loses to the Lady
Wildcats on Wednesday by final scores of 13-4 and 7-6.
The Lady Eagles dropped to 9-23 overall for the 2015
season and 6-14 inside the MACJC South Division. MCC will enjoy a break for the
Easter weekend and return to action on April 8 by hosting Co-Lin at Tommy
McDonald Field. The doubleheader is set for a first pitch of 3 p.m.
Pearl River scored eight runs in the opening two innings
of Game One to cruise to a 13-4 victory over the Lady Eagles. Shelby Peavey led
the way at the plate with a pair of base hits and two RBI's, while Zoie
LaVergne added a pair of RBI's on a home run. Lyndsey Cannon suffered the
pitching loss in Game One for MCC after lasting only one inning.
The Lady Eagles bounced back in Game Two with a solid
showing, but fell short by a final score of 7-6. Pearl River scored the
eventual game winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a solo homer
that would give the Lady Wildcats a one-run victory.
Montana Holyfield led the way at the plate in Game Two
for MCC with a pair of base hits and two RBI's, while Keoceania Yarbrough added
a couple of base hits and scored two runs. Shelby Peavey, Paige Gibson, and
Taylor Blevins each added one hit apiece in the Game Two setback.
