MCC Track Breaks Records at Alabama Relays



Tuscaloosa, AL - MCC opened their outdoor season on Friday and Saturday at the Alabama Relays hosted by The University of Alabama with a bang breaking a school record along with claiming one victory.

The highlight of the meet was MCC's record setting 4x100 relay of Chris Lewis, Cravorkian Carson, Terrance Johnson and Kendrick Smith who broke the school record in the event on the way to a victory with a time on 39.86. Their time also currently ranks as the 2nd fastest in the country this year behind LSU.

"This was a great way to start our outdoor season," said Head Coach Chip Gayden. "We knew we could run fast and it was all about timing on the handoffs and we executed it to perfection. It was very exciting for our guys to break the record in front of some alums of the program and Joseph Walker III who was the first head coach."

MCC also saw success in the 100 meters. Carson, Lewis and Smith were all invited to compete in the invitational section. Smith posted the fastest collegiate time of the meet with a time of 10.43 placing second overall. Lewis finished fifth overall with a time of 10.53. Carson finished 12th overall with a time of 10.79.

In the 400 meter Invitational, Devontre Young finished 12th with a time of 49.19

MCC saw success in the hurdles as well. On the women's side Jocindra Glee finished 25th overall in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.15. On the men's side Bryson Penton posted a time of 57.26 to finish 31st.

In the jumps Lakendric Tuck finished 15th in the long jump with a jump of 6.76 meters.  In the triple jump Tuck posted a 13th place finish with a jump of 13.97 meters.

MCC was able to post three national qualifiers at the meet.

MCC will next compete at the Mississippi College Twilight on Friday April 3.
