MCC Track Opens Outdoors at Alabama Relays

From School Reports
Meridian, MS – After a successful indoor season which saw MCC finish 13th in the country, MCC will begin their outdoor campaign this weekend over in Tuscaloosa, AL at the Alabama Relays hosted by the University of Alabama.
MCC will take a select few men and women to compete in the two day event that brings some of the best track and field programs from across the country to compete.
“This is a meet we are really excited about after having a great meet at the indoor national championships,” said Head Coach Chip Gayden.  “We hope we can go out and execute what we have been doing, and we are really excited to debut our 4x100 relay which we think is the best in the country.”
MCC will be led by indoor All American sprinters Chris Lewis and Kendrick Smith once again.  Lewis and Smith will both make their outdoor season debuts when they compete in both the 4x100 relay and the 100 meter invitational on Saturday.  They will also be joined by Cravorkian Carson on both the 4x100 relay and in the 100 meter invitational.
“For Chris and Kendrick this is a great way to start their outdoor seasons,” said Gayden.  “They both were invited to run the invitational section of the 100 which will be very competitive.”
In the 400 meters, Eric Durham and K’lan Harris will both compete in the open 400 meters on Friday evening, while Devontre Young will compete in the 400 meter invitational on Saturday.
MCC will also take to the track in the 400 meter hurdle races on Friday.  On the women’s side Jocindra Glee will make her debut in the event, while Bryson Penton will make his debut on the men’s side.
MCC will also compete in the 4x400 meter relay which saw them take 10th place at the NJCAA Indoor National Championship meet two weeks ago were they shaved five seconds off their previous best time.
In the field events, Lakendric Tuck will compete in the triple jump on Friday evening and then compete in the long jump Saturday afternoon.
The Alabama Relays begins Friday with the triple jump at 5:15 p.m.  The meet will begin on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with the 4x100 relay.  Live results can be found at www.branchsportstech.com
