Rich Named MACJC Pitcher of the Week
From School Reports
The Meridian Community College baseball team has enjoyed a
great deal of success on the mound in 2015 and for the second time this season
a player has been recognized for his accomplishments. Freshman pitcher Josh
Rich was named the MACJC Pitcher of the Week making him the second pitcher on
the staff to be recognized by the MACJC. Freshman pitcher Ryan Lane was also
named the MACJC Pitcher of the Week in the opening week of the 2015 season for
the Eagles.
Rich had a great week on the mound for MCC by picking up a
pair of pitching victories in a six-day span. Rich earned his first victory of
the week in a 12-1 victory over Spring Hill College by pitching two scoreless
innings. The big highlight of the week for Rich was a complete game shutout
victory over 11th ranked Jones County Junior College back on
Saturday by a final score of 8-0. Rich pitched seven strong innings and
collected three strikeouts in the effort. Rich scattered five hits in the game
and only threw 66 pitches against the Bobcats to improve to 3-1 for the season.
Rich currently has a 1.44 ERA and has already pitched two
complete games in 2015 for the Eagles. The Birmingham, AL native also pitched a
complete game shutout against Baton Rouge Community College earlier this season
and had eight strikeouts in the outing, and allowed only three hits. The Eagles
currently have one of the best pitching staffs in the MACJC with a team ERA of
2.45 for the season.
MCC will return to conference play this Saturday with a road
trip to Wesson, MS to take on the Wolves of Co-Lin Community College. The
doubleheader is scheduled for a first pitch of 2 p.m.
