MCC Track Completes Day One of NJCAA Nationals
Albuquerque, NM - MCC got off to a hot start Friday at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships Friday with 3 athletes qualifying for the finals in 3 events.
"We came in and did exactly what we wanted to
do," said Head Coach Chip Gayden. " We felt good about the 60 and 200
going in and for Josh (Austin) to qualify for the 600 was icing on the
cake."
MCC started their fast start with Josh Austin in the 600
meters. Austin ran a personal best time of 1:20.33 to qualify ninth. His time
was good for a three second personal best.
In the 60 meters, Chris Lewis and Kendrick Smith posted
the second and third fastest times of the prelims with times of 6.64 and
6.65. The times were personal bests for
both athletes.
Smith continued his night with a personal best time of
21.23 in the 200 meters which was good for the top time in the event.
MCC will compete in the finals Saturday in the 60 meters,
200 meters, and 4 x 400 relay.
