MCC Baseball Splits Conference Opener

ELLISVILLE, MS- The Meridian Community College baseball
team opened conference play for the 2015 season Saturday afternoon by traveling
to Jones County Junior College. MCC came away with a doubleheader split (2-12,
8-0) against the Bobcats to begin the conference portion of its schedule.
MCC moved its overall record to 11-6 with the
doubleheader split, while Jones moved to 14-4 overall for the 2015 season. The
Eagles will return to action Wednesday (March 11) with another key MACJC
doubleheader on the road at Hinds Community College. The twin bill is scheduled
for a 3 p.m. first pitch in Raymond, MS.
MCC was no match for the Bobcats in Game One of the
doubleheader and lost by a final score of 12-2. Freshman Dalton Smith led the
way at the plate in Game One for MCC by going 3-for-3, while Dustin Smith added
an RBI double. Former West Lauderdale star Daniel Hill also added a pair of
singles in Game One.
MCC responded in a big way in Game Two behind another
stellar pitching performance by freshman Josh Rich to win by a final score of
8-0. Rich pitched a complete game in Game Two and collected three strikeouts in
just 66 pitches.
Dalton Smith had another solid game with a two-run
single, while Dalton Thomas added an RBI on an infield single. Andrew Crook,
Michael Druhan, and Goose Yates each chipped in with an RBI base hit. Hill also
added a triple in the shutout victory in Game Two for the Eagles.
