MCC Softball Splits Set With PRCC
The Meridian Community College softball team returned to the
field Friday afternoon to take on Pearl River Community College in a key MACJC
South Division showdown at Tommy McDonald Field. The Lady Eagles finished the
day with a doubleheader split (8-4, 5-8) against Lady Wildcats to move to 5-13
overall for the 2015 season. MCC also moved its MACJC South Division record to
2-4 for the season with the Friday split with PRCC.
MCC returns to the field today (Saturday) in another key
MACJC South Division doubleheader against Co-Lin Community College in Wesson,
MS.
The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Sunday, but due to the threat
of rain it was moved to Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Eagles started the day of taking an 8-4 victory in
Game One behind Shelby Perry who picked up her first pitching win of the
season. Angel Thornton also earned the save in relief for the Lady Eagles. MCC
was led at the plate by Megan McCullough and Montana Holyfield who each went
2-for-3 in Game One. Keoceania Yarbrough and Victoria Lewis also picked up base
hits in the victory.
Pearl River rebounded in Game Two to defeat MCC by a final
score of 8-5. Zoie LaVergne took the pitching loss on the mound for MCC by
pitching five innings. Paige Gibson led MCC at the plate in Game Two by going
2-for-3 with her first collegiate home run, while McCullough went 2-for-4 at
the plate. Cassi Dew, Shelby Peavey, Holyfield, and Yarbrough also collected
base hits in the Game Two loss.
