MCC Golf Places Third at State Tournament

COLUMBUS, MS - The Meridian Community College golf team
finished play on Sunday at the 2015 MACJC State Tournament at the Lion Hills
Country Club. The Eagles climbed two spots to finish the tournament in third
place after opening in fifth after Day One on Saturday.
The Eagles shot a 293 as a team to finish with a final
team score of 591 which was one shot ahead of Co-Lin Community College. The
third place finish for MCC also qualified the squad to be a part of the Region
23 Tournament that will be played next weekend in Laurel, MS.
Connor Cavin was named 1st Team All-State at the
conclusion of the tournament, while Luther Thompson and Clayton Gray were each
named members of the 2nd Team All-State.
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College took home the
tournament championship by firing a two-day total of 570 (6-under par) to
finish ten strokes ahead of East Mississippi Community College who finished
second.
Clayton Gray was the low scorer in the tournament for MCC
by firing a two-day total of 146 (2-over par) which was good enough for a tie
in 11th place. Grant Reneger and Connor Cavin each shot a two-day score of 148
(4-over par) which put the pair in a tie for 14th, while Luther Thompson
finished tied for 18th with a total score of 149. Austin Terrell also ended the
weekend for the Eagles tied for 39th with a total score of 157.
