MCC Track & Field Returns



Meridian,MS – On Friday, Meridian Community College’s Track and Field team returns to action after an over 10 year absence at the Birmingham Southern Indoor Ice Breaker.

MCC will travel a select group of individuals who will compete in open events as well as relays.

“This is a great meet to open the season with, and to see where we are as a team coming out of the fall,” said Head Coach Chip Gayden. “We are real excited to finally have a meet after practicing since August.”

MCC will compete in 12 out of the 15 events contested at the meet.  Must see events for the meet for MCC will be the long jump, 60 meter dash, 400 meters and both the distance medley relay and 4 x 400 meter relay.

“I am very excited to see what we can do in the sprint events, jump events and relays,” said Coach Gayden. “The sprinters and jumpers have had a really good fall and I am excited to see what kind of results they are able to put up.”

MCC will debut some of the top talent in last year’s recruiting class on Friday with sprinter Chris Lewis, jumper K’lan Harris, sprinter Cravorkian Carson, sprinter and high jumper Devontre Young, sprinter Eric Durham and sprinter Bryson Penton.

The women’s team will debut four from last year’s recruiting class including sprinter Jaylen Cowan, sprinter Jocindra Glee, middle distance runner Breonnah Thomas and jumper Crystal Pettigrew.

Running events at the Birmingham Crossplex begin at 11 a.m. on Friday with the 60-meter prelims and run through 6:15 p.m. with the 4x400-meter relays.  Field events begin at 9 a.m. with the shot put and end with the high jump at 3:00 p.m.
