MCC Soccer Stars To Play In All-Star Event

Community College soccer program will be well represented next weekend in a
huge All-Star event showcasing the best soccer talent in the state of
Mississippi. Holmes Community College, the Mississippi Army National Guard and
Mississippi Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Center are teaming up to present
the 2nd Annual MACJC Men's and Women's All-Star Soccer Game. The All-Star
games have been set for Saturday, November 15 at Freedom Ridge Park in
Ridgeland. The women's game is set for 2 p.m. with the men to follow at 4:30
p.m.
Kayla Phillips
and Jordan Davidson of MCC have been selected to play in the women’s game,
while Lyle Daugherty and Tyler Germany will participate in the men’s contest
for the Eagles.
Phillips, a
former Clarkdale standout, was one of the driving forces behind the success of
the women’s team at MCC during the 2014 season. Phillips finished second on the
team in both scoring (12 goals) and assists (seven) during her sophomore season
where the Lady Eagles finished 9-8-1. Davidson played in 13 games this season
for the Lady Eagles and drew seven starts during her sophomore campaign under
the direction of head coach Mike Smith. The MCC women advances to the
quarterfinal round of the MACJC Playoffs, but were eliminated by Northwest Mississippi
Community College by a final count of 2-1.
The MCC men will
be represented in the All-Star event by a couple of former West Lauderdale
products. Daugherty led the Eagles in goals scored with eight and added two
assists during the regular season for head coach Alex George. Germany scored
three goals during his final season with MCC and had a team-high 10 assists.
In the event an
MACJC institution qualifies for the NJCAA national tournament, the MACJC
all-star game will be postponed to the Saturday following the NJCAA national
tournament.
