MCC Tennis Signs Local Star

The Meridian Community College women’s tennis team added to
its already impressive list of standouts for next season by signing one of the
area’s best players. Paige Gibson recently signed a national letter of intent
to play tennis at Meridian Community College next season. Paige, the
daughter of Trevor Gibson and Carla Gibson, is a graduate of Lamar School in
Meridian. Paige is an honor graduate and eligible for Honors College at
MCC. Gibson played varsity tennis and basketball for Lamar. Gibson was a
District winner at Number 1 varsity singles her 10th, 11th,
and 12th grade years. Gibson was a South State winner at
Number 1 singles her 11th grade year and 2nd place at
South State her senior year.
“She is exactly the kind of student-athlete we like to have
join our team,” said MCC head coach Wanda McPhail. Gibson has volunteered
with Relay for Life, Boys and Girls Club, Love’s Kitchen, Meridian Little
Theater, area nursing homes, Hope Village, and Swing for Laurie’s Kids.
Gibson was heavily involved in other activities during her high school
career as she was on the Student Council at Lamar and was a member of the Dusty
Social Service Club. Gibson has also served as a page at the Mississippi
Senate for Senator Videt Carmichael.
