MCC Baseball Rolls Past BRCC

The Meridian Community College Eagles opened play in the
2014 Region 23 Division I Tournament by rolling past Baton Rouge Community
College by a final score of 11-3.
MCC erased a 3-1 deficit by scoring two runs in the fifth
inning and seven runs in the sixth to secure the run-rule victory.
The Eagles scored its first run of the game in the bottom
of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Mac Seibert and two more runs crossed
the plate in the fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3.
The first run of the fifth inning scored on an RBI single
by Grant Hill and the second run of the frame scored on an RBI groundout by
Dalton Thomas.
MCC exploded for seven runs in the following inning to
put the game away for good to put the score at 10-3. The big blow of the inning
was a three-run double by Scott Votaw, while Michael Druhan and Ben Gann each
had RBI singles in the inning.
MCC added its final run of the game in the seventh inning
on a wild pitch to complete the 11-3 victory.
The Eagles finished with 13 hits and BRCC had four hits
in the game. Druhan led the way with a game-high three hits and three different
players in the Meridian lineup had two hits apiece. Brooks Balisterri, Kevin
Hall, and Scott Votaw each had two hits, while Paul Angel added a single.
Bryant Johnston picked up the pitching win out of the
bullpen for MCC by working 2 2/2 innings, allowing no runs, and collecting two
strikeouts.
MCC will continue play in the Region 23 Tournament by
playing Delgado Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
