MCC Golfer Advances To National Tournament
From School Reports
Meridian Community College golfer, Connor Cavin, is
getting ready for a trip to the NJCAA National Division I Golf Championship to be held in Burlington, Iowa. Cavin qualified
for the tournament by placing 10th at the Division I District IV Tournament
recently held in Albany, GA. He shot 74, 76, 79 to punch his ticket to the
dance.
He is the only individual to qualify from District IV
which includes Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and South Carolina. The
MCC team missed qualifying by two strokes.
"Connor played well in tough conditions to qualify.
The national tournament is a grueling four day event after two practice
rounds" MCC head coach Ronnie Key said. "MCC has had a lot of success
at this tournament and I feel Connor has the game to continue that success.
Connor made first team all-state and has played well in big tournaments this
year."
In the past four years, MCC has had two individual
national champions (Brandt Garon- 2011) and Jake Sterling- 2012) and an
individual runner-up ( TJ Morgan - 2013).
