MCC Basketball Signs Four Players For 2014
From School Reports
The Meridian Community College women’s basketball team
announced Tuesday that it has signed four of the premiere Mississippi high
school stars to join the Lady Eagle squad for the 2014-2015 season. MCC head
coach Jocelyn McGilberry announced that Tytiana Hall (Brandon), Lashonda Cousin
(Provine), Neiundra Moore (West Jones), and Maia McCullum (South Jones) have
all signed to play for MCC next season.
The four new signees will look to add depth to an MCC squad
that is losing three of its five starters heading into the 2014-2015 season.
Hall comes to Meridian by way of Brandon High School and
should bring several different tools to the floor next season for the Lady
Eagles. Hall averaged 14.2 points per game this past season for the Lady Bulldogs
and also averaged seven blocks a contest. Hall was awarded the 2013 Defensive
Player of The Year Award and was also named top rebounder on the Brandon squad
in 2013. Hall enjoyed a great deal of success during her senior year in 2014 by
being named All-Region and 2nd Team All-Metro. Hall has also
excelled in the classroom by being named a 2014 ACT Award Winner and Scholar
Athlete.
Cousin was the second player named to the signing class and
she will bring her talents to MCC from Jackson Provine. Cousin has lettered in
basketball since 2010 and has helped guide the Lady Rams to multiple District
6-6A Championships. Cousin has also been named Defensive Player of The Year on
two occasions and has been one of the most successful student-athletes at
Provine. Cousin is a member of the National Honor Society, member of the Mu
Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society, and was honored with the United States
Achievement Academy National Mathematics Award in 2012-2013.
Moore as the third player named to the new class and will
come to MCC from West Jones High School. Moore was named to the District 5-5A
All-District Team twice during her career and led the Lady Mustangs in several
categories for the past two season. Moore led the team in rebounds, assists,
and steals during the past two seasons at West Jones. Moore was also named by
her teammates as the Most Valuable Defensive Player from 2011-2014.
The final player named to the current signing class for the
Lady Eagles was Maia McCullum from South Jones High School. McCullum helped
lead the Lady Braves to a District Championship, South State Runner-Up, and
State Champion Runner-Up during her senior season. McCullum averaged 10 points
per game and was named an Honorable Mention for the All-District Team.
The MCC Lady Eagles will have more players named to its 2014
recruiting class at a later date.
