Four MCC Baseball Stars Earn All-Region Selections

From School Reports

The Meridian Community College Eagles are set to open play in the 2014 Region 23 Division I Tournament Friday afternoon in New Orleans, but four members of the team were honored in a special ceremony Thursday evening.

Dalton Thomas, Ben Gann, Kevin Hall, and Goose Yates were named members of the 2014 All-Region 23 Team at a banquet held Thursday night hosted by Delgado Community College.

Thomas led the Eagles in batting average during the regular season at .349 and was tied on the team in the home run department with seven. Thomas has primarily played in left field this season for the Eagles and drew a few starts at first base.

Gann also had a productive season for the Eagles by smashing seven home runs and finishing the regular season with a .291 batting average. Gann led the team in RBI's with 43 and started most of his games defensively at second base.

Hall started most of his games at catcher for the Eagles this season and has been one of the hottest hitters as of late. Hall is currently batting .329 and leads the team in runs scored with 40.

Yates was represented on the All-Region Team after enjoying a great deal of success on the mound in 2014. Yates complied a 2.12 ERA and finished with 5-3 record in just over 52 innings worked.

MCC is scheduled to open play in the Region 23 Tournament Friday afternoon at noon against Baton Rouge and will play Delgado Friday night at 7 p.m.
