Malavassi, Murray and Saleh Earn First All-America Selections

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Three players from the University of West Florida women’s soccer team were added to the Daktronics All-America Team as honorable mention selections, it was announced last week. Defender Noha Saleh (Wellington, Fla./Nova Southeastern) and midfielders Monica Malavassi (San Jose, Costa Rica/Methodist HS) and Tina Murray (Kingston, Jamaica/Meridian CC) joined forward Shakira Duncan, giving the Argonauts four All-America selections.

Malavassi and Murray were two of UWF’s top attacking options from the midfield. Malavassi, a sophomore, scored eight goals with four assists, while Murray added two goals and 13 assists. Malavassi was also selected to the NSCAA All-South Region first team, Daktronics All-South Region first team and All-Gulf South Conference first team. Murray, a junior, was also a Daktronics All-South Region and All-GSC first team pick.

The UWF defense allowed just 1.1 goals and 9.0 shots per game, and the Saleh led the way. The senior was the team’s top marking back, and she also was an impact player on the attacking side. Saleh started all 21 games and played 1,601 minutes, adding four assists from her defensive position. Saleh was also selected to the NSCAA All-South Region first team, Daktronics All-South Region first team and All-GSC first team.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences selected the three Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first-team all-region picks advancing to the national ballot. This is the fifth year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-America and all-region teams.

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA), with the online nomination and voting process powered by ATHLETICSITE.COM.
