Lady Eagles on a roll, Men fall at Hinds
Meridian Community College women’s basketball team might not want to see a three break for Christmas when it arrives after game Monday at Bishop State. The Lady Eagles have reeled off six straight wins to improve to 10-3 on the season as they prepare to host Coahoma Community College tomorrow (Saturday) at 3 p.m. in the Graham Gymnasium then travel to Bishop State on Monday.
Thursday, the Lady Eagles defeated Hinds Community College, 79-71. Freshman Arnissa Galloway led the Lady Eagles with a double-double, 22 points and 15 rebounds in the road victory. Freshman Norianna Haynes added 16 points and 7 assists. Sophomore Bianca Powell also had 6 assists and a huge three-pointer with :52 seconds left in the game.
Before the in-state battle with Hinds on Thursday, MCC defeated Mid-South Community College, 96-60. In that win on Saturday, MCC freshman Shumond Hughes led the Lady Eagles with 14 points, while sophomore Tay Odneal scored 13 points. Freshman Chasity Kearney scored 11 points and pulled 11 rebounds. Sophomores Bianca Powell and Kayla Hawkins each 7 assists in the MCC victory.
Meanwhile, in men’s action the Eagles were led by freshman Travis Fredimon last week as he scored 18 points in the home victory over Mid-South, 98-87.
Trent Tucker and Pierre Crawford followed with 17 points, while Nick Watkins added 16 points. Deangelo Priar added 10 points for MCC in the win.
Last night, however, the Eagles dropped a 104-74 loss to Hinds.
The Eagles, now 10-2, look to rebound tomorrow when they host Coahoma Community College at 5:00 p.m.
