MCC Basketball Looks To Continue Winning Streaks Tonight

Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams at Meridian Community College will ride winning streaks into tonight’s match-up with in-state opponent Northeast Mississippi Community College.

After losing to Jones Country Junior College, the Lady Eagles went undefeated at the Georgia Perimeter Classic over Thanksgiving Break to move their record to 6-3.

In game one of the tournament, MCC defeated Spartanburg Methodist College 89-80 in overtime. Freshman Norianna Haynes led the Lady Eagles with 30 points, while freshman Chasity Kearney scored her career-high of 25 points in the overtime victory. Sophomore Tay Odneal added 11 points, while Haynes dished out 9 assists. Shana Lampton pulled 10 rebounds for MCC.

Asia Mitchell led Spartanburg Methodist with 16 points.

The Lady Eagles made it two in a row when they defeated Walters State Community College 65-60 in their final game of the Georgia Perimeter Classic.

Once again, Haynes led the Lady Eagles with 21 points, while Kearney scored 14 points. Lampton had 11 rebounds, while Haynes dished out 8 assists for MCC in the victory.

April McCann, Ashley Thurman and Portia Durrett each led Walters State with 12 points.

Back home, the MCC men continued their winning streak over the holiday break, with a 108-75 win over New Horizon on Saturday.

With the win, the Eagles improved their record to 7-1 on the season and will ride a four game winning streak into tonight’s contest.

The Lady Eagles tip off against NE Mississippi at 6 p.m. while the Eagles tip off at 8 p.m.
