Lady Eagles defeat Northeast Mississippi

(MERIDIAN) – The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles were once again led by former Northeast Lauderdale standout, freshman Norianna Haynes, who scored 23 points Monday night to give MCC their seventh win on the season. The Lady Eagles defeated in-state opponent Northeast Mississippi Community College 81-74 Monday night in the Graham Gymnasium.

MCC improved to 7-3 on the season and have now won three straight games.

Haynes, who had six rebounds, four assist and three steals, led MCC with 23 points, fellow freshman Arnissa Galloway notched a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Chasity Kearny also scored in double figures for the Lady Eagles with 20 points.

MCC led by two points at the half, 39-37 then outscored the Lady Tigers 42-37 in the second half for an 81-74 victory.

Northeast Mississippi was led by Amber Johnson who scored a game-high 26 points.

MCC will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Wallace Selma, a team MCC defeated in the season opener, 90-69.
