MCC Softball Splits Home Doubleheader

The Meridian Community College softball returned to action
on Saturday at Tommy McDonald Field by playing host to conference foe Holmes
Community College for a pair of crucial games for the Lady Eagles. MCC managed
to salvage a split with the Lady Bulldogs by falling in Game One 5-1 and
bouncing back to take Game Two over HCC by a final of 6-2. MCC is now 14-17 overall
for the regular season and 9-13 in conference play after the doubleheader split
on Saturday. MCC softball will return to the field with a pair of
non-conference games on Monday as the Lady Eagles will travel to Bossier
Parrish Community College. The doubleheader on Monday is scheduled to begin at
2 p.m.
MCC started the day on Saturday with an early 1-0 lead after
three innings of play, but Holmes scored five unanswered runs in the final
frames to take a 5-1 victory in Game One. MCC managed five total hits in Game
One and Ivey Brewer led the way with a pair of hits and one RBI. Former
Clarkdale standout Alex Riser finished with a double in Game One, while
Courtney Moore and Kandler Flora each had a single in the loss.
Tiana Boutte suffered the loss on the mound in Game One for
MCC by working 3 1/3 innings and allowing only one earned run, to go along with
a pair of strikeouts for the Lady Eagles.
MCC bounced back nicely in Game Two by defeating Holmes by a
final score of 6-2 behind 12 total hits at the plate by the offense. Kandler
Flora drove in three runs on three hits in the win, while Keelee Ladnier drove
in one run on a pair of hits. MacKenzie Harvey also collected an RBI on two
hits in Game Two for MCC and Anna Lloyd also had an RBI single. MacKenzie
Harvey picked up the pitching win for the Lady Eagles in Game Two by working
five innings and allowing no earned runs.
