MCC Athletics Earns Top Academic Honors

The Meridian Community College athletic department received
some of the highest marks in the nation on Wednesday as the NJCAA announced its
Academic All-American winners for the 2014-2015 season. The MCC baseball
received top honors with having a team GPA of 3.40 for the 2014-2015 season
which was ranked first among all junior college baseball teams in the state of
Mississippi. The team was also ranked sixth in the nation with the impressive
GPA among all squads and four members of the team also earned individual honors
on Wednesday.
Bryant Johnston, Chance McDonald, Baylor Obert, and Jared
Savell all received individual academic accomplishments for their tremendous
work in the classroom. McDonald, Obert, and Savell each reached the Superior
Academic Achievement Award for compiling a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99 for the
2014-2015 season. Johnston was named a winner of the Exemplary Academic
Achievement Award for earning a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79.
The MCC tennis also had two individual winners as Shane
Trebisky and Taylor White each received the Superior Academic Achievement Award
for their work in the classroom. The MCC tennis men’s tennis team was also
named an Academic All-American for the season by finishing with a team GPA of
3.30 which was ranked among the top ten in the country. The MCC women were also
ranked among the top ten in the country among tennis teams with a team GPA of
3.45 which earned them a spot as an Academic All-American Team.
The MCC women’s soccer team received high marks in the classroom
as well by earning a team GPA of 3.48 which was among the top five in the
country for the second consecutive year, while the MCC golf team earned a spot
as an Academic All-American Team with a team GPA of 3.05 for 2014-2015.
