Lady Eagles remain undefeated in Miss-Lou, take over first place
(MERIDIAN) - The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles took over sole possession of first place in the Miss-Lou Conference standings with a 79-72 victory over Baton Rouge Community College on Wednesday night.
Both teams entered the contest 2-0 in conference play, but MCC held on for a seven point victory.
MCC led 35-30 at halftime over Baton Rouge.
Lady Eagle freshman, Norianna Haynes, a former Northeast Lauderdale standout, had another big game for MCC as she scored a game-high 24 points and collected 7 rebounds. Haynes also dished out 4 assists. Freshman Chastity Kearney had a double-double for MCC with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Bianca Powell added 10 points and had a team-high 8 assists.
With the win, the Lady Eagles improved to 17-4 on the season and 3-0 in conference action. MCC’s women have won five straight and 13 of their last 14 games. They will host Delgado Community College for Homecoming this Saturday at 2 p.m.
The MCC men were not as fortunate in their contest against Baton Rouge.
Baton Rouge defeated MCC 79-58 as the Eagles fall to 12-8 on the season and 1-2 in conference action.
Both teams will be in action Saturday when Southern University-Shreveport visits the Graham Gymnasium for MCC’s Homecoming. Tip off of the women’s game is set for 2 p.m. while the men play at 4 p.m.
