MCC Splits Conference Opener with Southern-Shreveport
The Meridian Community College basketball teams opened up their 2011 Miss-Lou Conference slate yesterday with a men’s/women’s double-header against Southern University-Shreveport. The games were played at a neutral site in A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College, also the site of the Region 23 Tournament this March.
The Lady Eagles started off their conference schedule with a 91-79 win over Southern-Shreveport. Freshmen Norianna Haynes and Chasity Kearny each had 15 points and 10 rebounds for MCC in their win. MCC’s women have now won three consecutive games and 11 of their last 12 for a 15-4 overall record
Meanwhile, in the men’s contest the Eagles fell 74-61 to Southern-Shreveport. The Eagles are now 11-7.
Both teams will be in action again this Saturday versus Miss-Lou Conference foe, Delgado Community College, at Graham Gymnasium.
Lady Eagles tip-off at 2:00 p.m. while the Eagles play at 4:00 p.m.
