MCC releases 2011 baseball schedule


(MERIDIAN)- First year head baseball coach, Chris Curry, will lead Meridian Community College into the 2011 season this Friday when the Eagles travel to Panama City, FL for the First Pitch Classic hosted by Florida Gulf Coast Community College. MCC will face Gulf Coast on Friday, Tallahassee Community College on Saturday and then the three day tournament will conclude with a championship round on Sunday.

MCC will then return to Scaggs Field to begin the home portion of their ’11 schedule. The first home game is set for Saturday, February 5th against Faulkner State Community College at 2 p.m.

The Eagles will have 23 home dates this season including Miss-Lou Conference showdowns against Baton Rouge Community College and long-time rival, Delgado Community College.

Baton Rouge comes to town April 9th and 10th. The battle with Delgado will take place April 22nd and 23rd when the Dolphins visit Scaggs Field to renew one of the NJCAA’s best rivalries.

In addition to the 23 home games, the Eagles will be on the road for 14 dates. MCC’s road slate will include trips to nearby foe Shelton State Community College on February 15th and March 29th along with a big series against national power Northwest Florida Community College February 25th and 26th in Niceville, FL. MCC will also face conference showdowns in New Orleans against Delgado on April 2nd and 3rd and versus Baton Rouge on April 30th and May 1st.

The post-season will start on May 13-15 when the Eagles play in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament at Delgado in New Orleans. The winner of the Region 23 title will then host the NJCAA District Tournament on May 19-22 for the right to play in the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, CO on May 28-June 5.
