MCC Golf defeats Millsaps College at Lake Caroline

(MADISON, Miss.) - The Meridian Community College golf team won their second title of the season as they defeated Millsaps College on Friday in an 18 hole match that was played at Lake Caroline Golf Club in Madison.

MCC posted a 5-under par team score of 283 to defeat Millsaps by 30 shots as the Majors posted a 25-over par team score of 313.

“Anytime you get a win its pretty sweet,” said MCC head coach Sean Covich.

“But to beat a NCAA team on their home course is special. Plus, everyone on the roster got to play and performed well, all in all- it was a great event.”

Leading the way for MCC's team scoring was freshman Jake Stirling who had a 3-under par 69 to claim medalist honors.

Sophomore Clemens Dvorak shot a 2-under par round of 70 while sophomore Brandt Garon shot a 1-under par round of 71.

Freshman Easton Key shot a 1-over par 73 while sophomore Adam Monsen rounded out MCC's team scoring with a 5-over par 77.

Four other Eagles competed as individuals in the event.

Leading the individual scoring were freshmen Alex Grannon and Ruston Smith, both of whom shot career low rounds of 2-under par 70.

Sophomore Oscar Mariscal posted an even par round of 72 while sophomore Bo Reed shot a 5-over par round of 77.

Leading the way for Millsaps was Drew Richardson who had a 4-over par 76. Meridian native, Daniel Finan, a freshman for Millsaps, shot a 5-over par 77. Chris Patton posted a 6-over par 78. Thomas Baxter shot 10-over par 82, while Adam Haywood shot 11-over 83.

Competing as individuals for Millsaps were Jake Sherrington, who had a 2-over 74, and Gabe Aguilar, who shot an 11-over par round of 83.

MCC returns to action Oct 25-26 at the Lake Caroline Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Mississippi College.
