MCC women remain undefeated

(RAYMOND) - The Meridian Community College women's soccer team stayed undefeated Tuesday as the Lady Eagles picked up yet another big win against an in-state rival, downing Hinds 2-1 in two overtimes in Raymond.

Fresh off a win against Jones County in their last outing, MCC's women traveled to face rival Hinds in a midseason Region 23 showdown.

Kelsey Edwards scored the first goal in regulation for MCC thanks to an assist from Brittany Reed. The Edwards goal was the only one scored for MCC in regulation as the game was tied at 1-1 when time ran out after the second half.

Chelsea Byrd scored the winning goal off an assist from Chasity Robertson in the second overtime to give MCC the win.

The Lady Eagles stayed undefeated and improved to 6-0-1 on the season.

In men’s action the Eagles dropped a 1-0 decision to Hinds, also in double overtime. MCC’s men are now 3-4-1 on the season.

Both MCC teams now prepare for their next regular season games in the annual Rush Invitational this Friday and Saturday at C.D. Smith Field.
