Eagles make comeback in afternoon session

(MERIDIAN) - Meridian Community College fired a 3-under par team score of 285 in the afternoon session on day one of the Jim Redgate Invitational played at Briarwood Country Club.

The Eagles moved from third place to second place in the team standings after the second 18 hole round on Monday afternoon.

Wallace State leads heading into Tuesday’s final round with a 582 total while MCC is just four strokes back at 586. Central Alabama is in third place with a 589, while Darton is in fourth with 593 and Rend Lake rounds out the top five with a 603.

“We had to shoot under par the second round to have a chance and we did just that,” said MCC head golf coach Sean Covich.

“There’s a lot of pressure when you’re the No. 1 ranked team and playing at home, but I think being just a few shots back is a great place to be, we’re looking forward to the round tomorrow.”
