Eagles rally to nip Kaskaskia in 11 innings
from staff reports
A throwing error by Kaskaskia College's catcher allowed the winning run to cross the plate as Meridian Community College edged the visiting Bue Devils 8-7 in 11 innings Sunday.
Brent Tanner's solo home run in the ninth inning forced extras, where he he started the Eagles' spark once again.
With one out in the 11th, Tanner singled and Evan Weibel came in to pinch run. Weibel advanced to second on a pitch that was in the dirt before stealing third. He scored when the catcher's throw to third went into the outfield.
Leake Academy product Allen Johnson, who pitched only the 11th inning, picked up the win for Meridian as the Eagles improve to 11-5 with the win.
MCC got on the board first with four runs in the second inning. Former West Lauderdale standout Tyler Vick scored on a double by Jonathan Pace. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Kenny Sanders, who hit into a fielder's choice. Cory Dickerson doubled in two more runs.
Tanner had a hand in each of the other two runs for MCC as he scored on a fielder's choice in the third and hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Meridian will play in the Bossier Parish Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
