MCC sweeps Lawson State
The Meridian Community College baseball team hosted Lawson State in a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at Scaggs Field.
The Eagles outscored Lawson State 15-1 on the day.
MCC won game one 5-1 and closed the nightcap with a 10-0 shutout victory.
Josh Demoney got the scoring started in the first game with a RBI single in the second inning. Jarrod Parks hit a solo home run in the third for MCC. Scott Moseley scored two more runs in the fourth with a RBI double and Tyler McMullen closed out the scoring for MCC with a home run in the sixth to give MCC a 5-1 win.
Matt Cox pitched a complete game for the Eagles in game one, striking out nine batters and giving up just two hits.
In game two, MCC started off the first inning with a slew of runs as Brett Tanner, McMullen and Demoney all hit RBI doubles to give MCC an early 5-0 advantage.
Taylor Scarbrough hit a leadoff triple in the fourth inning and eventually scored on a Shannon Steed sacrifice fly to put MCC up 6-0.
In the fifth inning, Scarbrough hit a RBI single and Steed again drove in runs for MCC, this time with a RBI double.
McMullen drove in the final run with a RBI sacrifice fly.
MCC won game two 10-0.
Ian Sharpe was the pitcher of record with a win after going three innings and striking out four batters.
With the sweep, MCC is now 23-16 overall and in a three-way tie for first in the Central Division at 7-5.
The Eagles will travel to East Mississippi on Saturday.
