MCC golf claims runner-up at Hinds
(RAYMOND)- The Meridian Community College golf team claimed runner-up at the Hinds Invitational with a two day score of 612 (304-308). It was the fourth top-three finish for the Eagles squad this year.
Mississippi Gulf Coast bettered MCC by 11 strokes to win the tournament. MGCCC shot 306-295 to win over Meridian for the second time this season. Gulf Coast won the MCC/Rush Invitational by 23 strokes over MCC's A-team at Briarwood earlier this season.
“Undoubtedly Gulf Coast is playing better golf than we are right now,” said MCC coach Sean Covich.
“The good news is that we have time to improve and get our top five healthy once again.”
Adam Porter of Pearl River won medalist honors with a 75-71.
MCC was led by Joe Konieczny who posted rounds of 75-76. Konieczny was named to his third All Tournament team of the season.
Clay Bounds finished with rounds of 72-82, Jarrod Lemaster shot 78-76, Jarrod Moulds posted 79-77, and Bryant Self's 87-79 closed out MCC's team scoring.
Michael Burton shot 79-78, Taylor McCrary shot 84-82, Curt Sparks shot 85-83, and John Everett shot 87-90 to close out the individual scores for MCC's B-team.
“I was really proud of Michael. His last four tournament rounds have averaged about 75.. so he’s earned a spot on our A team for this next trip,” said Covich.
The Eagles return to action Sunday-Monday in the ECCC Inv at Forest CC.
