MCC concludes the Arizona Intercollegiate Golf Classic

(CASA GRANDE, Ariz) - The Meridian Community College golf team concluded the Arizona Intercollegiate with a final round team score of 306.

MCC, the only junior college team in the field, finished in 12th place. The Eagles were just four strokes from placing in the top-10.

MCC was led by former Lamar standout Clay Bounds who placed in a tie for 16th individually out of nearly 80 golfers. The Meridian freshman shot an even-par 72 on the final day for a 54-hole total of 3-over par. Bounds shot 73-74 on day one.

Joe Konieczny assisted the Eagles scoring efforts with a 2-over par 74 on the final day. Konieczny shot 77-75 on day one.

Jarrod Moulds shot a 77 on the final day, coupled with rounds of 76 and 73.

Bryant Self shot 83 to close out the event. Self shot 80-81 on Monday.

Along with being the lone junior college in the field, MCC was also the only team with four golfers participating instead of the usual five due to team captain Joshua Ivy was out with an injured wrist.

"It really hurt us only having four scores but this will make us a better team in the long run," said MCC coach Sean Covich.

"Playing in this event will give us an advantage if we make it back for the NJCAA national championship here in May."

First day leader, Oklahoma Christian shot 285 on the final day to win the event outright. OCU shot a 54-hole team score of 12-under par.

Bruno Buccolo of Oklahoma Christian University won the medalist title with an 8-under 54-hole total of 208 (70, 67, 71).

Meridian returns to action in the MACJC/Hinds Invitational Sunday and Monday at Eagle Ridge GC in Raymond, MS.
