MCC Softball Splits Road Set

The Meridian Community College softball team returned to
action on Wednesday afternoon with a road doubleheader at Hinds Community
College and it also marked the first conference games of the season for the
Lady Eagles.
MCC came away with a road split against Hinds by winning
Game One by a final score of 11-1 and falling in Game Two by a final count of
5-1. MCC is now 4-12 overall after the split and 1-1 in the MACJC standings.
MCC will return to action on Thursday with a road trip to Wesson, MS to take on
Co-Lin Community College. The conference doubleheader against the Lady Wolves
is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Lady Eagles opened the doubleheader on Wednesday
against Hinds by using a six-run fifth inning to run away with an impressive
11-1 victory. MCC finished Game One with 11 total hits, while Hinds was only
able to manage five hits. Anna Lloyd led the way at the plate with two hits and
three runs scored. Lloyd also drove in a pair of runs for MCC, while Mycahla
Howard also drove in two runs on a pair of base hits. Brianna Duquette drove in
three runs for the Lady Eagles, while Ariel Allgood chipped in with an RBI base
hit.
Payton Fox secured the pitching win for MCC by working
five innings and collecting two strikeouts in the effort.
MCC wasn't as fortunate in Game Two and dropped the
decision to Hinds by a final score of 5-1. Hinds opened up a 5-0 lead after
three innings and never looked back in taking the four-run win over MCC.
Anna Lloyd and Mycahla Howard each had two hits apiece in
the loss, while Anna Lewis and Shelby Blackwell each added one hit. Angel
Thornton suffered the loss on the mound in Game Two for the Lady Eagles by
working six innings and notching two strikeouts.
