MCC Softball Sweeps Past BRCC

From School Reports

The Meridian Community College softball team traveled to Baton Rouge Thursday to begin a key Region 23 series looking to move a step closer to a postseason berth.

The Lady Eagles came away with a doubleheader sweep (9-5, 12-2) over the Lady Bears to draw just win away from earning a spot in the District playoffs.

The Lady Eagles collected 16 hits in the opening game and Lyndsey Cannon picked up the pitching win on the mound. Cannon gave up six hits and allowed four walks in the Game One performance.

The Lady Eagles secured the sweep in Game Two by taking the run rule victory in six innings. MCC finished Game Two with 14 hits and Cannon earned yet another victory on the mound for the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Eagles will host BRCC at Tommy McDonald Field this Wednesday (April 23) in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. MCC will need just one victory to clinch the Division I Region 23 title and earn a spot in the District playoffs next month.
