From School Reports

The Meridian Community College Eagles entered its game Sunday afternoon needing a victory to try and avoid a three-game series sweep at the hands of Delgado, but the Eagles fell just short.

Delgado smashed two home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete the sweep over Meridian by a final score of 4-2.

MCC dropped its overall record to 20-19 and 3-5 in Miss-Lou Conference play, while Delgado improved to 30-9 and 5-3 in league play.

Delgado took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Frankie Watts, but the MCC pitching staff would hold the Dolphins in check for the next several innings.

MCC tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the seventh inning on a bunt single by Grant Hill to bring the game back to even, but the Dolphins came up with two big blows in the bottom half of the frame.

Austin Barrios delivered a two-run home run down the right field line with two outs and Chris Eades followed with a solo home run to left field to give the Dolphins a 4-1 lead.

MCC scratched for one run in the top of the ninth inning on a single by Michael Druhan, but Delgado would hold on for the two-run victory.

Kellon Hibbard took the loss out of the bullpen for Meridian by working two innings and allowing three earned runs, to go along with a pair of strikeouts.

Druhan led the Eagles at the plate with a pair of hits, including a double.

MCC will return to action Tuesday afternoon for a single game at Scaggs Field against Alabama Southern which begins at 5 p.m.
