MCC Golf Set For Spring Fling
From School Reports
The number one ranked Meridian Community College golf team will look to capture their fifth tournament championship of the season as they prepare to compete in the 11th Annual Ron Marshall Spring Fling March 15-17 at Goose Pond Plantation in Scottsboro, AL. The 54 hole event will consist of 18 holes each of the three days. Sophomore Easton Key will lead the Eagles playing in the number one spot.
“Easton has been our most consistent golfer all season and for us to have a chance to win this event, we’ll have to have a good tournament out of him,” MCC head coach Clinton Hales said.
Key will be followed by Freshman T.J. Morgan, who earned All-Tournament Team honors at MCC’s last event, the Faulkner State Spring Invitational. The next two spots will be filled by Jake Stirling and Dylan Brown, while the fifth spot belongs to Meridian native and former Northeast Lauderdale standout, Gafford White.
“We’ll have to play our best to win this event,” said Hales. “This is one of the best fields we will face all year with top ten schools like Darton College , Central Alabama CC, and Division II power John A. Logan CC. We’ve never won this event, so we look forward to the challenge of competing against some of the best teams in the nation.”
A total of 20 teams will participate in the tournament which is being played at the Colony Course at Goose Pond Plantation, which sits on the banks of the Tennessee River’s Lake Guntersville.
