MCC Baseball Moves Past Alabama Southern

From School Reports

The Meridian Community College Eagles got a solid pitching performance from sophomore Wes Stokes to secure a 3-2 victory over Alabama Southern at Scaggs Field on Friday afternoon. Stokes pitched seven strong innings and ended the game with three strikeouts. The victory on the mound by Stokes was his first of the 2012 season and Andrew Chesteen pitched the final two innings to earn his first save of the season.

Kasey Hinton led the Eagles at the plate with a pair of hits and Wade Wass added an RBI single in the game for the Eagles. Gabe Woods and Johnny Tolson each drove in a run in the victory for Meridian. Tevin Pope and Cliff Covington each added a pair of hits in the loss for Alabama Southern. MCC improved to 9-7 overall for the 2012 season and Alabama Southern dropped its overall record to 4-9.

Meridian will return to action February 29 on the road at East Central Community College. The doubleheader with the Warriors is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Eagles will return to Scaggs Field next weekend to open a three-game series with Northwest Florida. The series will begin with a single game on March 2 at 5 p.m. and conclude March 3 with a doubleheader scheduled for 12 p.m.
