MCC Softball Splits With Hinds

The Meridian Community College softball team opened its 2012 season on Friday by earning a doubleheader split with Hinds Community College (7-4, 1-12) The Lady Eagles will return to action on Saturday participating at the Lurleen B. Wallace Tournament in Andalusia, AL. MCC will play three games on Saturday and will begin the day at 12:30 p.m. against Chattahoochee Valley and will continue play against Wallace-Dothan at 3 p.m. The tournament will conclude for MCC with a 5:30 p.m. against Lurleen B. Wallace.

The Lady Eagles were able to scratch for a couple of late runs and secure a three-run victory in the first game of the season. Brooke Dew led MCC at the plate with two hits and Shumond Hughes added a pair of doubles in the victory for the Lady Eagles. Kelsey Wilson earned the pitching win in the opening game for MCC.

Hinds was able to take advantage of four early errors by MCC to salvage the split in the doubleheader. Mallory Lowe took the pitching loss on the mound for the Lady Eagles and allowed only one hit through six innings. Dew led MCC at the plate with two hits and Maranda Agee finished the game with two hits for MCC.
