MCC Softball Drops Two Games To Pensacola

The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles could not find a way to rebound from its early season struggles as Pensacola State College swept a pair of games from MCC (2-7, 2-14) on Friday afternoon at Tommy McDonald Field. The Lady Eagles are now 1-10 for the season and have lost nine straight since winning its opening game of the season against Hinds Community College. MCC will look to reverse its fortunes with its next scheduled game on the road February 28 against Bishop State. The first pitch of the game is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Mobile, AL.

The Lady Eagles got a solid performance from sophomore Heather Reed in the first game of the day, but Pensacola would take the five-run decision. The former Meridian High standout had three hits in the opening game for MCC and scored a run. Shumond Hughes added a base hit and scored the only other run in the first game of the doubleheader for MCC. Brooke Dew and Devin Batson each added a single in the game one loss for the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Bucs secured the sweep over MCC by a run rule shortened victory. MCC only managed a pair of hits in the game and Pensacola took advantage of several miscues by MCC to run away with the win. Dew and Batson each had a base hit in the game two loss for the Lady Eagles.
