MCC Falls To Wallace-Hanceville In Extra Innings
From School Reports
The Meridian Community College Eagles held an 8-7 lead late in its game against Wallace-Hanceville, but the Lions would find a way to escape with a win over MCC. The Lions scored a run in the ninth and tenth innings to hand the Eagles its second straight loss to open the 2012 season by a final score of 9-8.
"We faced a very good Wallace-Hanceville team that did a great job at the plate," said MCC head coach Chris Curry. "We were not able to close the door in the late innings and I think that we are just trying to find our identity at this point in the season."
Jonathan Youngblood, Johnny Tolson, Tyler Dixon, and Sam Peterson each had two hits in the loss for MCC. Youngblood and Dixon each had a home run in the game for the Eagles, while former West Lauderdale standout Dustin James added a two-run single.
Peterson took the pitching loss on the mound for Eagles by working the final two innings of the game in relief. Wes Stokes drew the pitching start for MCC and worked five innings and allowed two earned runs, while collecting two strikeouts.
Conner McCain drove in four runs to lead Wallace-Hanceville and Jud Sherrill had four base hits to pace the Lions at the plate.
MCC will return to action on Sunday in its final game of the First Pitch Classic against Florida Gulf Coast beginning at 4 p.m.
