Two Local Players Join MCC Baseball
From School Reports
The Meridian Community College baseball team has built a solid reputation on recruiting some of the best local prospects in our area. Witt Haggard and Dallas Hannah are the newest additions to the MCC baseball team and will look to make an immediate impact this season.
“We are very excited to have two local players from our community joining our baseball team,” said MCC head coach Chris Curry. “These two players were very successful high school players who had the opportunity to play Division I athletics and they have decided to pursue their careers a little closer to home.”
Haggard is transferring to MCC after being a member of the Ole Miss football team the past two seasons as a walk-on at quarterback.
“I am very excited to be back a little closer to home,” said Haggard. “This is a great group of guys that I am around and I love the atmosphere here at Meridian. I am looking forward to the season and hope to make an impact for our team.”
Haggard lettered in both baseball and football in high school at Lamar. Witt played baseball for current Lamar head coach Bill Baldner and played football under the direction of Mac Barnes. Haggard was named All-State in both football and baseball at Lamar during his senior year.
“He (Haggard) has a great arm and I believe once he finds his command he will be able to help us this season,” added Curry.
Hannah is transferring to MCC after being a member of the Mississippi State baseball team and played his high school baseball at Meridian High School for Chuck Butler.
“I am thankful that Coach Curry and the staff have given me this opportunity to come play for a great program,” said Hannah. “I am glad to be a little closer to home and thankful to be involved in such a great baseball program.”
Hannah was also a member of the Meridian High School football and soccer team while at MHS. Hannah was named All-Region and offensive player of the year in his senior season at Meridian High School.
“He (Hannah) can do a variety of things on the field and I think he will be very valuable for us during the season,” said Curry.
MCC opens the 2012 season January 27 on the road in Panama City, FL as a part of the First Pitch Classic against Central Alabama.
