Lady Eagles win in OT over Hinds to stay undefeated

(MERIDIAN) - The Meridian Community College women’s soccer team continued their winning ways on Monday as the Lady Eagles picked up another victory over an in-state rival.

MCC defeated Hinds Community College at C.D. Smith Field in overtime to remain undefeated and improved to 9-0-1 on the season.

After Hinds had scored a goal to open the game up 1-0, MCC sophomore Anastasia Vogel scored a goal just before halftime. Sophomore Kelsey Edward assisted Vogel’s goal.

Vogel then score in the second half to give MCC a 2-1 lead, only to see Hinds score less than ten minutes later to tie up the game at 2-2.

Hinds then looked to steal the win with a goal with less than five minutes to play.

MCC’s Edwards then scored in the final minutes to keeps MCC’s dream of an undefeated season alive and send the game into overtime.

Edwards then hit the winning goal seven minutes into overtime as the Lady Eagles defeated Hinds 4-3.

MCC (9-0-1) prepares to play Friday at No. 7 Georgia Perimeter, another undefeated team in NJCAA DI. The contest at Georgia Perimeter will be the final regular season game for the Lady Eagles before they prepare for the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.

The MCC men will have their final regular season home game Tuesday at 6 p.m. as they host Concordia College.
