Eagles take Game 1 from Kaskaskia

from staff reports
The Meridian Star

MERIDIAN - Meridian Community College starter Blake Hennington silenced the Kaskaskia bats Friday at Scaggs Field. Behind Hennington's seven shutout innings and 12 strikeouts, the Eagles won 5-2.

Wile Hennington was shutting down Kaskaskia, former West Lauderdale standout Darren Farmer and Meridian High product Kenny Roberts were powering the MCC offense. Farmer doubled in a run with two outs in the first inning to stake the Eagles to a 1-0 lead. Roberts then added a two-out RBI single in the second following a single and stolen base from Kenny Sanders.

Leading just 2-0, MCC struck for a pair of runs in the seventh as Farmer doubled in his second run of the game to plate Jonathan Pace. Avi Ahlzadeh then hit a sacrifice fly to score Ben Kingsley, who also scored in the first.

After Kaskaskia rallied with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth, Roberts answered with his sixth home run of the season.

MCC (11-5) hosts Kaskaskia at 2 p.m. Sunday on Poplar Springs Elementary Day at Scaggs Field.

The Eagles, who were scheduled to face Bossier Parrish in Vicksburg on Tuesday, will now face Bossier Parrish at Bazinsky Field in Vicksburg on Monday.
