MCC's Monsen wins Faulkner State Inv.
Eagles climb to fourth
(FAIRHOPE, Ala.) - The final round of the 2010 Faulkner State Invitational Tuesday featured wind gust up to 25 mph and temperatures in the mid-30's at Rock Creek Golf Club as Meridian Community College golf team battled back.
MCC improved one shot from their first round score of 307 to post the lowest team score of the day, a 306, on Tuesday to move from fifth place up to fourth place.
The Eagles were once again led by freshman Adam Monsen who posted a 75 on the final day.
Monsen won the medalist title in a playoff against Central Alabama's Barrett Milam. Both players shot a 147 to tie for first, and Monsen birdied the second playoff hole to claim the medalist honors. This was Monsen's third consecutive top ten finish and his first career individual win.
Freshman Clemens Dvorak also posted a 75 on day two. Dvorak shot 154 for the event.
Freshman Brandt Garon shot 78 on the final day to match Dvorak with a 154 two day total.
Sophomore Cory Williamson posted a 78 on Tuesday to finish with a 160 total, while sophomore Garrett Westbrook continued to struggle with a final round 88. Westbrook finished with a 168.
In the team standings, Central Alabama won the event with a 601, while wallace State came in second with a 610. Brevard was third with a 611, MCC in fourth with 613 and Spring Hill College and the University of Mobile tied for fifth with a 620.
Nine teams competed in the event.
