After the Eagles scored twice in the seventh to force extra innings in Saturday's nightcap, former Meridian High star Kenny Roberts made sure MCC salvaged a split.

Northwest Florida, which scored in each of the first four innings to grab a 7-5 lead, scored twice in the top of the eighth to regain the lead at Scaggs Field. Kenny Sanders, though, led off the home half with a home run and then with two outs, Roberts hit a walk-off grand slam to end it. Roberts had six RBIs on four hits, while Sanders went 4-4. Jonathan Pace scored three runs on three hits, Ben Kingsley had two hits, Darren Farmer scored twice and Avi Ahlzadeh drove in three and scored twice.

Former West Lauderdale standout Dustin McWilliams earned the win after relieving Payton Gardner heading into the eighth.

In the first game, Meridian led 5-0 heading into the fifth before Northwest exploded for seven runs in the sixth after plating one in the fifth. Allen Williams, Meridian's starter, had a two-hitter through five innings.

Corey Dickerson led Meridian's attack with two hits including a double, two RBIs and a run. Pace had an RBI and double on two hits.

Meridian (10-5) plays Texarkana on Wednesday.
