Eagles claim runner-up at Wynlakes Wynter Nationals


(MONTGOMERY, Ala.) - Meridian Community College golf team posted the second lowest score in the field for the second consecutive day to claim runner-up in the Wynlakes Wynter Nationals played in Montgomery, Ala.

The Eagles shot 295 on the final day to finish second in the 13 team field. "We played a lot better today," said MCC head coach Sean Covich.

"Proud of the guys, to come back post a better score and hold on to second was a solid way to start the spring."

Host Huntingdon College won the event with a 584, MCC came in second with a 598, LaGrange College came in thrid with a 609, Birmingham Southern College came in fourth with a 610 and the University of Montevallo rounded out the top five with a 619.

Leading the way for MCC was freshman Brandt Garon with rounds of 74-72 to finish tied for third and was named to the All Tournament Team. Freshman Clemens Dvorak placed in the top ten with a tie for seventh after rounds of 75-74. Freshman Adam Monsen also finished in the top ten with a ninth place finish shooting 76-74. Sophomores Garrett Westbrook and Cory Williamson each shot 154. Westbrook shot 78-76, Williamson had 79-75.

Chase Blaich defeated former MCC golfer, Clay Bounds now who plays for birmingham-Southern, in a play off for medalist.

Blaich and Bounds finished at +1 for the 36-hole event.
