Saturday Rush Recap


(MERIDIAN) Meridian Community College opened up Rush Invitational Tournament play up Saturday night with two wins behind strong offensesive outbursts.

In game one the MCC used a five-run third inning to put away Wabash Community College 12-6 as multiple Eagles produced at the plate.

Corey Dickerson connected for three singles, while former West Lauderdale standout Darren Farmer had a single and a double. Ben Kinsley struck for two doubles, while Michael LeGrange, former Meridian High standout Kenny Roberts and Hunter Trawick went deep for Meridian. LeGrange's homer drove in three runs.

Johnathan Thompson got the win improving his record to 2-0 on the year. He went 5 1/3 innings while striking out eight batters.

Meridian got things going early in game two as the Eagles struck for seven runs in the first two innings to rip through Southeastern Illinois for its fourth win of the season.

Rob McWhirter ripped a two-run homerun in the first inning to set the tone for MCC (4-2).

Ben Kingsley went for a single and a triple, while Jamey Cutts, Hunter Trawick and Jonathan Pace contributed two base knocks apiece. Kenny Roberts got in on the action with a double.

Scott Lord pitched a complete game allowing one earned run and striking out seven. Lord improves to 1-1 on the season.
