Lady Eagles drop decision to Trinity Valley

(MERIDIAN) – Entering Wednesday night’s contest against No. 5 Trinity Valley Community College the Meridian Community College Lady Eagles knew they would have their hands full.

For the past two seasons Trinity Valley has played MCC in the Graham Gymnasium on their way to the Chipola College Tournament in Florida and the Lady Cards have always escaped with wins, from tough, scrappy play out of the Lady Eagles.

Meeting number three between the two teams wouldn’t be the same as Trinity Valley rolled to a big win, 99-57 over MCC.

MCC got within three points midway through the first half but then Trinity Valley went on a big run before halftime to take a 56-28 lead and the game was pretty much in hand.

The second half was all Trinity Valley as they showed why they’re a top five team in the NJCAA polls.

Leading the way for MCC was sophomore Brittany Bohannon out of Kemper County with 10 points. Sophomore Sharde Johnson added 9 points for the Lady Eagles.

Marcisa McMillan from Trinity Valley led all scorers with 16 points. Pre season All America, Gloria Brown added 14 points for the Lady Cards while Michelle Thomas also had 14 points.

With the win, Trinity Velley improves to 4-0 while MCC falls to 1-1.

The Lady Eagles will be in action Saturday when they travel to Wallace State-Selma, meanwhile the MCC men will face East Mississippi Thursday night in Scooba, MS.
